Euro Fruits and Vegetables!

This is the last and final blog of the Euro foods!
We made it!
After this will be the meals we make at home and things like that :)  This posting focuses on the Fruits and Veggies that we got to pick, eat, see, and enjoy.  There's somthing about fresh fruit from a place where sunshine abounds... it seems to give them that much for flavour! Come have a look at what we saw and enjoyed!

Fresh yellow peppers with cream poured into them, and baked.  This was rich and delicious.

Baked eggplants, soaked in olive oil, parsley, and balsamic vinegar.  We should really eat more eggplant in Canada, it's good!

Cooked Peppers!!  Look at the colour!

This is a quick shot of a salad we had, along with the bread that arrived when we sat down, but look what comes with the bread! It's olive oil and balsamic vinegar in to go packages... like how us Canadians get ketchup and vinegar, Italian's get olive oil and balsamic vinegar, GENIUS!

An overflowing fruit stand in Rome, what a beautiful site! Have I mentioned I loved Rome??

We may have talked about the Tomato salad in previous blog posts, but seriously the flavour and simplicity of rich ripe tomato's with olive oil and a touch of salt is just heavenly, and to think I didn't use to like tomato's!

Bread, tomato salad, bocconcini, olive oil, and some house red wine.  Excellent way to start a dinner.

Fresh olives from outback in Troia soaking in salt and water, getting ready to be eaten.  Just an abundance of olives in Italy, it was incredible.

A little fruit shop in Troia, so fresh, so delish, so beautiful.

The shop owner, potato's shalots, basil, oh the list goes on.

Anyone want to buy a bunch of peppers??

Fresh delicious grapes!

Cactus Fruit tree at Maria Livorno's place! Just overflowing with fruit!

Matteo and Jon exploring the olive orchard in Troia at Maria's place.

Olives!

More Olives

An ancient fruit, looks like an olive, but it's different, and sweet!  In Italian they are called giuggiole and in english they are called jugees!

Pomegranate tree!

Fresh pomegranate! Can't beat that!

Fresh walnuts from the walnut tree!

Orange tree, not quite ripe yet :)

MMm ripe fig on fresh bread.  Look at the colour!

Vincenza's stash of home made canned tomato sauce!

Bags of almonds picked right off the tree, still in their shells.  These are so expensive here in Canada!

Drying home grown garlic out in the garage.

These are the little hand rakes used to pull the olives off of the trees.

Ummmm these were delicious! Dried figs with almonds inside! What a delicious sweet home grown treat!

An orange tree in Malta :)

Fresh fruit at a market in Malta.

Bulk nuts, bulk candy, and produce, Maltese Market.

This was the first time we tried Biggila (top right brown paste - so so so good).  Zuchini's stuffed with goodness, grilled eggplant and peppers, olives, lettuce, and rustic bread.   drooooooool.

This was a salmon dish served in Malta.

Bushes of capers everywhere in Malta!!! On the side of the road!

This is how capers grow!

Another maltese spread: Sundried tomato's (MOUTH WATERING), biggila, cheese, olives.  Simply delicious!

Thanks for going through our Euro food travels! O what a delicious trip it was.  Onto our Canadian cooking :) MMmmm more to come!

Thanks for having a look!
