Beautiful Brindisi!

Hi everyone!
Well onto the next part of our journey.  We have spent 4 nights in the town of Brindisi.  It has been very relaxing and fun.  We stayed at the same place the whole time and took little adventures out from this town.  It's a nice size town, lots of shops and things to look at, fun streets to walk down but you don't see the same people everyday which is nice.  We are finding things like our favourite pizza place, favourite trattoria, and favourite shops.

We ventured out to a town called Ostuni which was very picturesque, also known as the white city because so many of the buildings are whitewashed.  What a view from this place, you could see right to the ocean from up there.

We also ventured to a town called Casarina, we thought we were in a different town but turns out we got off the train one stop too early but it was a-okay because the reason we went out that way was to see these ancient rock buildings called Trulli.  They are like rock igloos, we enjoyed walking these old streets and stealing figs off of random yards.

Yesterday we hit the beach outside of Brindisi.  What a coastline, the water was such a nice blue.  We were swimming in the Adriatic sea, wahoo! That's a first for me!  We had the beach to ourselves until two young locals showed up and put our white skin to shame. hahaha, and boy did we see a lot of their skin haha.  We ventured into the ocean there, it was sooo nice, so salty, and sooo beautiful.  We just love the ocean.

Jon said it seems like Italy was made for me, pasta and ocean.  Two of my loves.

Everyone has been so friendly to us this whole trip.  The laundry guy, the people on the bus that seem to just talk to everyone, the pizza shop guy, the internet guy, the hotel guys.  It's been surprisingly friendly everywhere!

It has been really fun exploring the heel of Italy, we decided to cancel our Greek plans because it was going to be super rushed, the weather was bad in Greece, the trains are on strike.... too much hassle, and we love relaxing.  So our plans are now to train to Bari and fly to Malta tonight, Jon's family friend Joe will be picking us up, and we will be staying with him and his wife for a little while.  From Malta we are going to head to Sicily for a few days and then back to Malta and over to Frankfurt then Vancouver!

Yikes our trip is flying!! But what a trip it has been.  Not one bad day.  We feel super blessed with the time we have had, the people we have met, the food we have eaten, and the landscape we have seen.

Well

  1. I just had to say that while it's wonderful connecting with all your extended family and relatives, it's great that you're able to make the time for yourselves to just simply...relax. :) The scenery is gorgeous everywhere there and I'm sure it's hard to step away from those warm sandy beaches.

It's unfortunate you're not going to Greece, however, the circumstances really weren't in your favour and it probably would have put a damper on your trip...so needless to say, wise decision! ;)

All your experiences and new connections are so amazing that this seems to have become the best trip possible. yay!

Lots of love to you both!
    Ciao xoxo

  2. Yum figs from peoples yards. Must be nice. As a counter point , last night I spent a little time trying (unsuccessfully) to scare off some raccoons from eating the grapes growing on the side of the house. Sadly this morning there was only one lone bunch of grapes left...

Sounds like a good decision to skip being rushed and frustrated in Greece and just enjoy the heel of the boot :)

Hey Jon, you know all this talk of pizza and pasta means I'll be harder to get rid of on my next visit to Nanaimo as I expect to be sampling
all your new culinary treasures. I trust you are gathering recipes ?
    Have fun.......Rob
